What is this?
This data article is the result of a 6 month long project analyzing the trends of 70 student’s journeys from freshman summer to post-grad. My intention was to dispel any misconceptions freshmen had about what they had to do over the summer to excel in the professional world.
This article is the second most successful one on The Sign.al, accumulating 3,000 page views.
What did I do?
I collected data from 70 upperclassmen about their college journeys and analyzed the relation between freshman summer plans and overall career pathways. I used interactive charts and prose to portray the findings as a story.
What did I use?
What am I most proud of?
In addition to this article, I published a list of upperclassmen who were willing to mentor younger students on pre-professional pressure at Penn. Not only did I receive an overwhelmingly positive response, the Wharton administration distributed this article to freshman at orientation to dispel their fears.
This year, I'm working with Career Services to create a sustainable visualization of over 10,000 undergrads who have inputted summer activity and post-grad plans to better inform current students of available career tracks. This project will be updated annually by my Signal team so students of future generations can use it.
